DEGIRO<\/strong> is a European brokerage that manages \u20ac51.7 billion<\/strong> in client assets for over 3 million investors<\/strong>. It was established in the Netherlands in 2008<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My opinion of DEGIRO – in a nutshell<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    As a strong advocate of risk diversification in investing, I even apply it at the platform level. The two main platforms I chose for my investments are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \ud83d\udee1\ufe0f Security<\/strong>: DEGIRO started its operation in 2008 and was acquired by German Flatex Bank in 2020. The Dutch part is monitored by the country’s central bank (DNB \ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddf1) and regulated by the local capital market commission (AFM \ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddf1). Other European clients (such as Greeks) fall under the German branch that is regulated by the German Capital Market Commission (BaFin \ud83c\udde9\ud83c\uddea).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Is DEGIRO a scam?<\/strong> No, DEGIRO is not a scam. Cash<\/strong> deposits <\/strong>are protected (up to \u20ac100,000) by Germany’s deposit guarantee scheme (EdB), while invested funds <\/strong>are protected (up to \u20ac20,000) by the EU’s Investment Compensation Scheme (ICS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \ud83d\udcb8 Commissions and fees:<\/strong> DEGIRO offers some of the lowest commissions in the market. There is no extra charge for account creation, deposits or withdrawals. Also, there are no portfolio management or inactivity fees. Trading fees are pretty low as well. Trading US stocks starts from \u20ac2 per order, Greek stocks from \u20ac4.9 and global ETFs from \u20ac3. Finally, there is no minimum deposit limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      What’s going on with PRIIPs, KIDs and ETFs ban:<\/strong> Unfortunately, the PRIIPs legislation has very much limited the ETFs available to local investors in many small European countries such as Greece, Chezh Republic and Slovenia.       If you are a long-term<\/strong> investor (i.e. you buy, hold and sell after years – or don’t sell at all) and looking for a platform to execute your orders, then DEGIRO may be your platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
